Making an impact: Blue Scope Steel’s Amanda Burston, Impact for Women’s Jenny Scott and shire mayor Cr Bev Colomb invite the community to the Impact for Women Market Day, Saturday 10 October, Hastings Community Hall.

A HASTINGS market day will help raise funds for Impact for Women, an organisation that aims to make a difference for women in crisis.

Organiser Jenny Scott said around 30 stallholders would add to the event, which will have face painting for the kids and raffles throughout the day.

“International fashion designer Henry Roth will assist on the afternoon, Tyabb Scouts will be cooking, plus we will be running a live auction to help raise money for the cause,” Ms Scott said.

The market will be opened by Impact for Women founder Kathy Kaplan OAM.

She launched the idea in May, 2006, with a group of friends. Their goal was to make a difference to women and children in crisis – specifically to Victorian women and their children living in crisis accommodations due to domestic violence.

Mornington Peninsula mayor Cr Bev Colomb said the shire was committed to raising awareness and working to prevent family violence in the community.

“In May the shire adopted its Prevention of Family Violence Implementation Plan which complements its endorsement of the Statement of Commitment for the Prevention of Family Violence in November last year,” she said.

“As a community we support activities that promote the peninsula as a safe place and that act to eliminate violence in all of its forms.

“I encourage the community to get behind this market day event to help raise funds for the work of Impact for Women within our community.”

The market will run 10am-4pm, Saturday 10 October, at Hastings Community Hall, High St.

Entry is by a gold coin donation.
