THE Warringine boardwalk reopens on Sunday after being closed since a bushfire in January.

More than 700 metres of the Hastings boardwalk have been restored and Mornington Peninsula Shire is inviting the public to the opening.

The official opening is at 10am, to be followed by guided tours through the reserve and a light lunch.

While the shire has been reconstructing the boardwalk which meanders through coastal wetlands bushland has been regenerating, with some types of plants appearing in the park for the first time, including the swamp daisy.

Shire rangers will conduct guided walks and to introduce visitors to the local biodiversity values of the park.

Species that live within the park include waterbirds, reptiles and animals.

The Warringine boardwalk open day 10am, Sunday 13 December.
