Southern Metropolitan Region Crime Team Investigators have charged an 18-year-old man following an investigation into two aggravated burglaries and a burglary in Rosebud in July.

The alleged aggravated burglaries occurred at Eighth Avenue and Tarwarri Avenue on 8 July 2016.

Investigators arrested the man at a Langwarrin address about 7.40am yesterday.

The Langwarrin man was charged with numerous offences including aggravated burglary, intentionally cause injury, assault, theft and burglary.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Victoria Police has escalated its response to aggravated burglaries and carjackings across the state. At the start of May they rolled out Operation Cosmas – drawing together investigators under the umbrella of Crime Command.

These investigators within each region were allocated additional resources to the operation which aims to prevent, deter and investigate aggravated burglaries and carjackings.

Day and night patrols are being conducted at high risk locations to prevent offences taking place.

Since the operation commenced there have been more than 75 arrests.
