CRIB Point Community Garden, Somerville Rise Primary School and Somerville Fire Brigade are the first groups to share in the annual community grant of $5000 from Peninsula Quarries.
The grants go to community groups in the Somerville, Tyabb and Mornington areas for projects supporting the environment.
Crib Point Community Garden will receive $1750 for a 4000-litre water tank. This will enable environmentally responsible watering of the garden which provides fresh food for welfare groups.
Somerville Rise Primary School will receive $2245 for environmental learning hub The Barn which teaches pupils about sustainability and environment issues. Somerville Fire Brigade will receive $1000 towards an electronic LED messaging board outside its Eramosa Road East headquarters. This will promote community events and assist with warnings and restrictions during emergency events.
Peninsula Quarries services the region’s civil infrastructure industry with quarry materials and products for road building and sewerage ponds.
The company’s community engagement group chair Rob Gerrand described the grants as a “tremendous environmental initiative”.
“This year’s recipients are outstanding community organisations and worthy winners,” he said.
“They have established an extremely high standard of dedication to the environment which next year’s applicants will find inspirational.”
