ONE of the busiest intersections on the Mornington Peninsula is to be upgraded at a cost of $930,000.
Changes at the intersection of Eramosa, Grant and Frankston-Flinders roads, Somerville, include three raised pedestrian crossings, flashing lights, fencing and signs to allow pedestrians to safely move through Somerville and remind drivers to slow down when approaching the intersection.
A ramp and handrail for people who use mobility aids will be added to the footpath on the west side of Grant Road.
The intersection connects to nearby shops and businesses, residential areas, schools, industrial areas, community facilities, bus services and the Somerville train station, as well as the eastern suburbs of the peninsula.
Construction is due to begin in coming months and is expected to take three to four months to complete, weather depending.
Traffic management will be in place while crews complete concrete works, install pedestrian ramps and lighting, and asphalting works will be done at night.
MP for Hastings Paul Mercurio visited the intersection on Wednesday with roads minister Melissa Horne.
“We’re upgrading this busy intersection to make it safer for everyone and connecting businesses, schools and local residents with key transport links – it’s exactly what our community needs,” he said.
