KEEPING older drivers safe and mobile is the aim of a free driving seminar at Mornington Community Theatre, 10.30am-12.30pm, Thursday 1 September.
The seminar is open to all senior drivers, their families and friends.
“Older people make an important contribution to the economic and social well-being of the community as owners, employees or customers of businesses, as volunteers, and through the support they provide to family and friends,” organiser Nancye-Joy Gardner said.
“They need to stay mobile to sustain this contribution and to maintain their own sense of independence and well-being.
“It is important to keep older drivers driving safely for as many years as possible. To do so, it is important that they keep up-to-date with the latest information available.”
The seminars will cover safe driving strategies, road rules, vehicle safety, health and mobility issues, driver assessments, using alternative transport, and planning for future mobility needs. They will offer advice on council services and other helpful resources. At the end there will also be an opportunity to talk with a qualified occupational therapist.
The seminars are run and funded by Roadsafe, TAC and RACV in partnership with Frankston Council and Mornington Peninsula Shire.
All seniors’ groups are urged to make a booking. Free refreshments will be provided and no tests are involved.
