WHAT’S a home? Is it a house, apartment, building, car, or perhaps a bench in a park?
Sadly, some young people in Frankston and on the Mornington Peninsula don’t have the luxury of a warm bed, their own room, or protective walls, with a reported 220 sleeping rough on any given night.
To help them, Fusion Australia – which has a branch in Mt Martha – is gearing up to host its fourth Sleep In Your Car event at Mornington Park, Saturday 4 August.
To be held during Homelessness Week, the event is part of a nation-wide campaign prompting people to simply begin to consider what it means to be homeless.
Residents are welcome to drop in for dinner or stay the whole night at the park.
On show will be information displays by service providers, as well as pop up galleries and musicians, workshops, children’s story readings, food and drink, and collaborative art.
A highlight will be The Walk Without Home – an experiential learning program developed by the Fusion Mornington Peninsula team.
Those interested are asked to register to sleep in their car or sleep rough to raise funds to support young people experiencing homelessness on the Mornington Peninsula. Organisers hope to raise $35,000.
