A man will be without his licence and his car after he was detected drink driving in Hastings early this morning.
Hasting police spotted the man as he was attempting to drive his ute off Reid Parade and onto the Stony Point railway line just before midnight.
The vehicle became stuck on the tracks and had to be removed by a tow truck.
The driver, a 38-year-old Safety Beach man, was accompanied by police to Mornington Police Station where he returned a breath test of 0.243.
His licence was immediately suspended and a suspension notice will be served on his vehicle.
When police asked the man where he was going, he said he was off to visit his kids for Christmas day.
This intercept was part of the state-wide Operation Roadwise, which sees police out in force to target drink and drug driving, speed, distraction, fatigue and failure to wear restraints.
Operation Roadwise will run from 14 December to 6 January, and will focus on enforcement and improving driver behaviour.
Police will be out in force to target the five leading causes of death and serious injury on our roads – speed, impairment, distraction, not wearing seatbelts and fatigue.
