The Country Women’s Association on show in Mornington

Members of the Mornington Peninsula Group of the Country Women’s Association of Victoria compete in the 48th Creative Arts Exhibition this weekend with their scones, their knitting and their ongoing push for social change.

Mornington Peninsula Group President, Marnie Turner, said it was always exciting to see the 10 local branches go head-to-head in what’s always a tight competition.

“The last weekend in April will see our Mornington Peninsula ladies come together for our annual Creative Arts Exhibition,” Ms Turner said.

“The ladies get quite competitive, but what’s even more exciting is our young members learning new skills and being supported by our older members.

“There’s nothing better than seeing the legacy of 91 years of the Country Women’s Association of Victoria live on in the hearts and minds of the next generation.”

With the art of junior members displayed alongside members who are aged 90 and over, and everyone in between, it really shows the breadth and the importance of an organisation that’s managed to stay relevant for so long.

“The Country Women’s Association of Victoria has remained relevant since its inception,” added Ms Turner.

“From starting the first maternal health centres through to advocating for marriage equality, meeting with Ministers to stop the State Government from merging the CFA and MFB without consultation, and equitable milk prices for our farmers, the Country Women’s Association of Victoria is as relevant today as it ever was and I’m so proud to be one of the organisations’ younger members.”

The Country Women’s Association continues to lead the charge to improve the lives of women and children across Victoria with 10 branches right here on the Mornington Peninsula.

The Creative Arts Exhibition is on 27 and 28 April from 10am each day at Peninsula Community Theatre, Wilsons Road, Mornington.

Entry is $5 and children under 14 accompanying an adult are free.
