HOLD onto your pint glasses, beer lovers – Jetty Road Brewing is about to rock your taste buds in the most unexpected way. The Dromana-based brewery has whipped up a bold concoction so unique, it might just be the sweetest idea to hit the craft beer scene: a Neapolitan Ice Cream Ale.
The new brew, which features the triple threat of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavours, will be making its grand debut at this year’s Great Australian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS) festival at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, where attendees are bracing themselves for a taste experience like no other.
Jetty Road Brewing head brewer Sean Varley said it was a “unique one-off beer for the festival that’s never been released before”. Sourcing cacao nibs from Mornington Peninsula Chocolateria, Varley said the nostalgic experiment was about trying to achieve a “harmonious balance” between the trio of flavours. “It’s always a bit nerve wracking doing a new beer,” he told The News last week, which had required a “bit of trial and error and batch testing.” “We’ve got the cacao nibs soaking in the brew for a few days now to try and get that rich chocolate flavour out of them.”
The GABS festival, which runs from 4-5 April, is renowned for showcasing creative and experimental brews from across Australia. Guests can taste over 100 new and exclusive festival beers and 20 cocktails under one roof. In addition to debuting their Neapolitan Ice Cream Ale, Jetty Road Brewing will also be showcasing its popular draft beer, pale ale, extra pale ale, and a “special barrel edge stout”.
