MORNINGTON Peninsula Shire will be holding a green waste weekend from 24 – 26 October 2025.
The ‘No Charge’ Green Waste weekend is for Shire residents or ratepayers only. These events are popular and delays can occur, especially in the morning and at the end of the day.
The free green waste weekend will be held at the Resource Recovery Centres at Rye (Truemans Road), Tyabb (McKirdys Road) and Mornington (Watt Road). The opening hours of the centres will be Friday 8am – 4pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am – 5pm.
Preparation Guide:
- Bring along your proof of residency (for example driver’s license, rates notice).
- Green waste includes all types of garden waste and untreated timber.
- Mornington can only accept up to three cubic metres of green waste per trip.
- No commercial vehicles or commercial green waste. Only residential vehicles and trailers are accepted.
If you find yourself regularly taking green waste to the tip, you can opt-in to receive a 240-litre fortnightly green and food waste bin collection. Visit mornpen.vic.gov.au/greenwaste
Shire residents have the opportunity to reduce household waste through a compost rebate program. By turning green waste and kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich compost, households can create ‘garden gold’ while supporting sustainable practices. Eligible residents can receive a $50 rebate on the purchase of compost bins, worm farms, or bokashi systems. Visit mornpen.vic.gov.au/compost
