THE upgrade of Mornington’s Schnapper Point boat ramp will commence this week.
Mornington Peninsula Shire has secured funding through Better Boating Victoria to renew the ageing ramp, which currently operates as a two-lane facility with finger jetties on either side. The project will focus on increasing capacity, improving safety and upgrading infrastructure that has reached the end of its operational life.
The work at Schnapper Point, Mornington includes:
- installation of a new finger jetty to provide more space to tie up and better access to boats,
- construction of a wider boat ramp to increase capacity; and,
- construction of a new concrete manoeuvring area and pedestrian shared area to make using the carpark safer and easier.
Acting mayor Cr Paul Pingiaro said the upgrade was essential and welcomed the state government’s support.
“Clearly the asset was at the end of its life. The shire, while managing the program, is thankful for the state government for prioritising it. We look forward to the improvements and upgrades and dredging that’s part of the project,”said Pingiaro.
The boat ramp at Schnapper Point will be closed until October.
Nearby boat ramps that are open include Fishermans Beach boat ramp (Mornington), Kananook Creek (Frankston), Oliver’s Hill (Frankston), and Safety Beach.
