CHRIS Crewther has announced an elected Liberal-National government will fund $10m towards the redevelopment of Mount Eliza Secondary College, including a dedicated student wellbeing facility and redeveloped senior learning and drama centres.
The investment will also initiate a comprehensive masterplan for the school, working with the school community to plan, scope and cost the full redevelopment of the school, following which further funds for subsequent stages can be sought.
“The school, community and I have been fighting for major investment in Mount Eliza Secondary College for years. This commitment would deliver much-needed facilities, while providing a clear plan for the school’s full redevelopment and future,” said Crewther.
“Mount Eliza Secondary College is an important part of our local community and students and teachers deserve facilities that support learning, wellbeing and participation.
“I have been fighting for this school and listening to the school community about the facilities they need, which they’ve amplified through multiple petitions led by students and the School Council.
“Under a Jess Wilson Liberal and Nationals Government, we will provide $10m towards the school’s redevelopment to deliver a dedicated wellbeing facility and redeveloped senior learning and drama centres, while also commencing a masterplan for the school’s future.”
The masterplan will be developed in consultation with the school and wider community. It will identify, plan, scope and cost the school’s full redevelopment and infrastructure priorities, establish project staging, and provide the planning needed to garner further investment.
Central to the masterplan will be planning for a new multipurpose stadium incorporating:
- A gymnasium
- Indoor sports facilities
- A school assembly space
- A performing arts precinct
Crewther said the masterplan would ensure the school had a clear and achievable pathway for its much-needed full redevelopment, kicked off by $10m for a dedicated student wellbeing facility and redeveloped senior learning and drama centres, which will add to the new $7.5m STEM facilities which are soon to be completed.
Shadow Minister for Education, Brad Rowswell MP, said “Chris has advocated strongly to me for Mount Eliza Secondary College. He and I will continue working with the school community to ensure the completion of this project under a Liberal Government, and that its future infrastructure needs are properly planned for and met.”
