Detectives from the Missing Persons Squad are this week searching an area of Cape Schanck as part of their investigation into the suspicious disappearance of Sergio Cuesta in 2023. The search, which will take place today and tomorrow, will focus on an area near the Gunnamatta Surf Club. A MORNINGTON Peninsula kangaroo welfare group is sounding the alarm after a recent bushfire came dangerously close to hundreds of kangaroos trapped on a private property in Cape Schanck.According to Save the Kangaroos on Mornington Peninsula Inc. (SKOMP), more than 600 kangaroos have been trapped on the Rogers Rd property since September 2021 after the land manager erected gates and closed off all exits.SKOMP’s spokesperson Jo Hansen said they had unsuccessfully appealed to authorities including the Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action (DEECA) to secure the release of the kangaroos, noting of particular concern was a bushfire came dangerously…

Firefighters contained a scrub fire that spread over two hectares in Cape Schanck, with a water-bombing helicopter called in to tackle the blaze on 6 February. The fire broke out near Long Point Rd about 5.50pm which saw 15 fire vehicles respond including units from Boneo, Rosebud, Main Ridge, Rye, Dromana, Moorooduc fire brigades and Fire Rescue Victoria pumper 95. Police will prepare a report for the coroner after the body of a woman was located in the water off Cape Schanck this afternoon. Emergency services were called to the bottom of the Cape Schanck boardwalk where the woman was located in the water about 12.15pm. Police winched the woman from the water, however sadly she was already deceased. It is understood a group of three people were swept off rocks near the boardwalk and only two were able to make it back to shore safely.
