A fatal collision claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Somerville last night.

Police have been told a Ford utility and a motorcycle collided head-on on Frankston-Flinders Road just after 8.30pm.

The male motorcyclist died at the scene.

The male driver of the utility received minor injuries and was taken to the Frankston hospital.

This death makes two dead in just a few hours on the peninsula after a male died after his car left Mornington Peninsula Freeway and hit a tree in McCrae at about 5.15pm. The car then burst into flames.

The male driver and sole occupant of that vehicle died at the scene.

Anyone who witnessed either collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to make a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
