AS life gets back to normal it’s time to leave the car at home, tie up the shoelaces and walk, scoot or ride to school.

Mornington Peninsula Shire is calling on all kids and their families take part in the VicHealth Walk to School program supported by Peninsula Health.

Active travel to school has great community benefits: it reduces traffic congestion on the roads, cuts pollution, and creates an opportunity to spend more time with friends and family.

As part of the program, families are encouraged to participate in a weekly photo competition with four nature-based treasure hunts running until 20 November.

Each week students will need to find the treasure and take a photo for their parent or guardian to share on Instagram using the hashtags #walkmornpen and #walktoschool.

The top four pictures will be shared on the shire’s Instagram @ourpeninsula at the end of each week so members of the community can vote for their favourite. The student behind the picture with most votes will take home a box of fresh fruit and vegetables from a local farm gate.

Follow the treasure hunt competition on Instagram @ourpeninsula.
