Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted in Mornington on 14 September.

The 36-year-old woman was pushing a pram along a track beside The Esplanade, near Strachans Road, about 1.37pm.

An unknown male approached her and sexually assaulted her.

The man then ran off toward Main Street.

The man is described as approximately 40-50-years-old, 170-190cm tall with a ruddy complexion.

He was wearing a cream baseball cap, blue hooded top, blue t-shirt, black tracksuit pants and runners and appears to have a tattoo on his upper arm.

Investigators have released CCTV and images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
