THE Mornington Rotary Art Show has returned to the Peninsula Community Theatre, bringing one of the region’s largest and most popular visual arts events back to Mornington.

Running from 16 January to 24 January, the annual show will feature around 750 artworks, including oils, acrylics, watercolours and pastels.

The exhibition is being held at the theatre on the corner of Wilson Rd and Nepean Hwy, with doors open daily from 10am to 5pm, and a special late-night opening until 8pm on Friday 23 January.

At the special Friday night opening, guests will be treated to a drink of their preference on arrival, and finger food will be offered during the evening.

The Bays gala opening night on 8 January was a smashing success, offering attendees the first opportunity to view and purchase artworks.

Around 300 people including community VIPS attended a balmy night to view more than 700 paintings on display, including oils, acrylics, watercolours and pastels.

Catering was done by The Filling Station, who provided delicious food for guests to nibble on as they viewed the artwork, and listened to the soothing sounds of Kissing Harriet, a soulful jazz trio.

This year feature artists are Melbourne-based painters Billy Nye and Nina Volk, alongside a range of artisans showcasing ceramics and sculpture. The exhibition will also include artworks created by local students, highlighting emerging talent from the Mornington Peninsula.

Judging the show will be renowned painter Clive Sinclair and The News photographer Yanni.

General entry to the exhibition is $10, and artworks will also be available to view and purchase online via the Mornington Rotary Art Show website until 26 January.
