Casey Highway Patrol officers found more than they bargained for when responding to a collision in Lynbrook on Sunday morning.

Officers were notified after a Toyota Prado allegedly collided with a wheelchair accessible taxi on the South Gippsland Highway just before 10.30am.

Luckily, the occupants of the taxi were not injured.

The Toyota fled the scene and was later dumped at a shopping centre carpark on Lynbrook Boulevard.

Police patrolled the area and located the alleged driver walking down the South Gippsland Highway and took him into custody.

Officers searched the man and located an imitation firearm, multiple large knives, an axe and a baseball bat.

Further checks on the Toyota revealed it was allegedly stolen from a Cranbourne West address on 6 June.

The man was also allegedly driving whilst unlicensed.

The 34-year-old Somerville man is in custody where he will be interviewed by police.
