WATER POLO
By Frank Jenkins
LAST Friday night, YAWA Aquatic Centre came alive as the Mornington Peninsula Mist Under 13 boys water polo team stepped up for an exciting practice match against the Victorian U13 squad, who are preparing for next week’s National Championships.
The game, proudly organised by our local club, was all about development—and what a showcase it was. Our young Mist players rose to the challenge against some of the state’s best, displaying determination, teamwork, and impressive defensive skills well beyond their years. It was a fantastic opportunity for our athletes to experience a higher level of competition and see firsthand what dedication and training can achieve.
Despite the intensity in the pool, the matches were played in great spirit, with smiles, sportsmanship, and plenty of encouragement shared on both sides. It was a night that highlighted not just talent, but the strong sense of community growing around water polo on the Peninsula.
Water polo is one of the world’s most exciting and dynamic sports – fast-paced, skilful, and full of action. Players combine swimming, ball skills, teamwork, and strategy, all while treading water (no touching the bottom allowed!). With a rich history dating back to 1850s England, it remains one of the most enduring international sports, with Australia proudly achieving Commonwealth Gold Medal success in aquatic competition.
Best of all, water polo is for everyone. Our program welcomes boys and girls of all abilities, offering a fun, inclusive, and low-impact way to build fitness, confidence, and lifelong friendships.
Training sessions are held at YAWA on Fridays (7-8am) and Saturdays (3-4pm).
Our coaching team is second to none, led by Ryan Moody, who represented Australia in over 100 international matches, including World and Commonwealth Championship campaigns.
If your child is looking for a sport that’s different, exciting, and supportive – this is it.
Come along and give it a go. The Mornington Peninsula Mist are building something special, and everyone is welcome. For more information, call Ryan Moody on 0409 316 034.
