MEN’S DIV ONE SEN
THIS weekend was the final round of MPFNL Division One Men’s Seniors, with the final five now set for finals beginning next weekend.
Frankston YCW were pushed down to fifth on the ladder after their loss at the hands of Sorrento.
The Sharks led by a goal at the end of the first quarter, scoring 3.4 to the Stonecats’ 2.4.
In the second quarter, Sorrento managed to maintain their lead with boath teams slotting three majors. The Sharks led by seven points at half time.
The Stonecats began to drag their claws and fell behind in the third quarter, only scoring two goals, while the Sharks smashed on eight.
In the final quarter, Sorrento scored a further 2.3 while Frankston YCW managed to score 4.2. This resulted in Sorrento, 16.11 (107), beating Frankston YCW, 11.8 (74), by 33 points. The win was only Sorrento’s fifth for the season.
Dromana were able to secure third spot on the ladder after their win against Devon Meadows.
The Panthers struggled to score in the first quarter which allowed the Tigers to take an early lead. The Panther managed only a single point while the Tigers scored 7.3.
In the second quarter, Dromana added 2.2 to their score while Devon Meadows scored 3.5, leaving Dromana ahead by 35 points at the long break.
The Tigers kept the Panthers to a single point in the third quarter, while scoring 2.5 themselves.
In the final quarter, both teams added two majors. The final result was Dromana, 13.14 (92), beating Devon Meadows, 5.10 (40), by 52 points.
Mt Eliza ended up fourth on the ladder after beating Edithvale-Aspendale in their clash.
The Redlegs took an early lead by scoring four goals to the Eagles’ single goal in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Redlegs continued to dominate the game, scoring 3.2 to Edi-Asp’s 1.4, taking a 25-point lead into half time.
The Eagles swooped closer to the Redlegs in the third quarter after scoring 4.3 to the Redlegs’ 1.4, leaving eight points between the teams.
In the final quarter, Mt Eliza were able to score a further 4.3 while Edi-Asp scored 2.3.
The final siren had Mt Eliza, 12.9 (81), beating Edi-Asp, 8.13 (61) by 20 points, and guaranteed Mt Eliza’s spot in the finals.
Elwood Peckett scored three goals for Mt Eliza. Caiden Styles scored three goals for Edi-Asp.
Langwarrin demolished Mornington and secure their place as second on the ladder.
The Kangaroos took an early lead in the first quarter by scoring 6.2 and keeping the Bulldogs scoreless.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs finally put a number on the board after scoring 1.4 to the Kangaroo’s 5.1, leaving the Kangaroos ahead by 59 points at the long break.
Mornington were once again unable to score in the third quarter while Langwarrin continued to hop further into the lead after scoring 6.5.
In the final quarter, Mornington managed to score a further 1.2 while Langwarrin scored a tremendous 12.2.
This resulted in Langwarrin, 29.10 (184) eviscerating Mornington, 2.6 (18) by 166 points, and allowed Langwarrin to secure their finals position.
Matthew Johnson scored an outstanding eight goals for Langwarrin, with Matthew Peynenborg close behind with five goals scored.
Rosebud continued their dominant streak and secured their place as minor premiers after their win against Pines.
In the first quarter, neither team scored significantly, with the Pythons scoring 0.1 and the ’Buds scoring 1.5.
In the quarter before the long break, Rosebud started to fall into an easy lead, keeping Pines on one point while adding 7.6 themselves given them a 58-point lead at half time.
The Pythons managed to score their first goal of the game in the third quarter while the ’Buds continued to lead the play, scoring 5.5.
In the final quarter, Pines were unable to score while Rosebud scored 3.5.
This resulted in Rosebud, 16.21 (117), beating Pines, 1.1 (7) by 110 points.
As the normal playing season is now over, Rosebud, Langwarrin, Dromana, Mt Eliza and Frankston YCW will now all play in the finals over the next couple week.
Rosebud have a bye next week, while Langwarrin take on Dromana next Saturday and Mt Eliza take on Frankston YCW next Sunday.
The loser of the second game is eliminated for 2026, while the winner of that clash play the loser of the first game the week after.
MEN’S DIV TWO SEN
RED Hill managed to best Somerville in the first qualifying match of the 2026 finals series.
In the first quarter, the scores were very close, with Somerville scoring 2.4 while Red Hill scored 3.5.
Somerville only managed to score one point in the quarter before the long break while Red Hill scored 4.3, resulting in Red Hill going into the long break with a 33-point lead.
In the third quarter, Somerville still struggled to score, only adding one point to their total while Red Hill scored a further 2.4.
Somerville were finally able to get into gear in the final quarter, scoring 4.1, but it was too little, too late.
Red Hill put on five goals in the final quarter, further pulling away from the Eagles.
The final scores were Red Hill, 14.14 (98), too good for Somerville, 6.7 (43).
The result of this game means that next week, Red Hill will take on Chelsea for a guaranteed spot in the grand final.
Somerville are given a final chance in 2026 against Frankston Bombers next weekend, after their win against Seaford on Sunday (23 August).
The scores were close in the first quarter, with the Bombers ahead by only one point after scoring 2.4 to Seaford’s 2.3.
In the second quarter, Seaford claimed the lead by three points after scoring a further 3.1 to the Bombers’ 2.3.
The Bombers stole back the lead in the third quarter, scoring three goals and keeping Seaford to two majors.
In the final quarter, the Bombers pulled away from Seaford entirely after scoring 5.4 to Seaford’s 3.2. This resulted in the Bombers, 12.13 (85), beating Seaford, 10.9 (69), by 16 points.
The loss for Seaford signals the end of their 2026 campaign that saw them end up fourth on the ladder with 13 wins and only five losses during the regular season.
