MEMBER for Nepean, Anthony Marsh, has reaffirmed the Liberal Party’s $340m commitment to completely rebuild Rosebud Hospital, doubling bed capacity, delivering an expanded emergency department and “ensuring we keep it in public hands”.
First announced during the May Nepean by-election, the commitment will see Rosebud Hospital transformed into a modern hospital, with construction to commence within the first term of a Wilson Liberal government.
The announced redevelopment will include:
- Doubling the hospital’s existing bed capacity.
- Delivering an expanded emergency department.
- Modern facilities designed to meet the peninsula’s growing healthcare needs.
The commitment follows years of community advocacy for improved healthcare facilities, with the Mornington Peninsula Shire identifying the redevelopment of Rosebud Hospital as one of its highest priorities (Shire ‘shouts out’ to advocate for election wish-list, The News, 21/7/26)
The Committee for Frankston and Mornington Peninsula has also backed the redevelopment, describing it as a longstanding strategic priority and commending the Liberals’ $340 million commitment.
The committee’s independent benchmarking report identifies Rosebud Hospital as a priority infrastructure project, highlighting its outdated 1960s-era facilities, insufficient capacity and the need for patients to travel to Frankston or Melbourne for essential healthcare.
Rosebud Hospital serves a growing community across the Southern Peninsula, including families, workers, retirees and the millions of visitors who travel to the region each year.
For many residents, accessing emergency care can mean a lengthy journey to Frankston, particularly during peak summer periods when traffic congestion adds to travel times.
“Our commitment is to completely rebuild Rosebud Hospital, double its bed capacity, deliver an expanded emergency department and ensure we keep it in public hands,” said Marsh.
“We need a hospital that meets the healthcare needs of our entire community, from older residents to young families and workers, ensuring everyone can access quality healthcare close to home.
“If a tradie is seriously injured on a worksite in Rye, or a child has an accident at home, they shouldn’t have to travel all the way to Frankston to get the emergency care they need.”
“If someone suffers a heart attack in Blairgowrie, every minute counts. Getting the right emergency care quickly can mean the difference between life and death.”
“We’ve waited long enough. We don’t need another minor upgrade or a fresh coat of paint. We need a complete rebuild.”
“Labor hasn’t. Independents and minor parties can’t. Only the Liberals will rebuild Rosebud Hospital.”
