THE boat ramp at Schnapper Point has reopened after upgrades to make it safer and more accessible.
The upgraded facilities were fully funded by Better Boating Victoria and include new jetties, a new and improved boat ramp, a new concrete and pedestrian area, and DDA compliant accessible jetties and a hansa hoist.
Cr Paul Pingiaro said it was fantastic to see the new ramp open.
“This is an important piece of infrastructure for our local boating community and the many visitors who enjoy getting out on Port Phillip Bay,” said Pingiaro.
“A big thank you to our council officers, contractors and everyone involved in delivering the project on time and ready for the boating and snapper season.”
Mayor Cr Stephen Batty said the shire is proud to have delivered the works for the community, thanks to the funding from Better Boating Victoria.
Batty also highlighted the importance of making the upgraded facilities accessible for everyone.
“The hansa hoist and accessible jetties at Schanpper Point open up boating and fishing to people who may have missed out in the past. This means people of all abilities can enjoy our stunning coastline,” said Batty.
The council plans to further upgrade the Schnapper Point precinct, with boardwalk reconstruction set to begin in late October.
The timber will be replaced with a fibre reinforced polymer material which the council says will improve safety, durability and accessibility.
The boardwalks at Schnapper Point are expected to be complete by Christmas, with temporary closures in place during construction.
