MORNINGTON MP Chris Crewther has announced an elected Liberal government will commit $2m towards a walking and cycling trail between Mornington and Moorooduc station.
The $2m will go towards the first stage of the long-awaited walking and cycling connection, helping deliver the missing link in the 170-kilometre Peninsula Trail network.
Crewther said he has been fighting for better walking, running, cycling and active transport connections across the Mornington electorate, and this commitment would get the trail project underway.
“The Mornington to Moorooduc Station connection is a major missing link in our local walking, running, cycling, and active transport network,” said Crewther.
“I’ve been fighting for this project to progress as our community deserve safe, connected paths that allow people to walk and ride between Mornington, Mt Eliza, Moorooduc and the peninsula.”
The first stage of the of the Mornington to Moorooduc station trail path project will provide a new shared walking and cycling trail, safer opportunities for recreation and everyday travel, improved connections, and increased opportunities for tourism.
Crewther said the project would provide both local and broader benefits for the peninsula and beyond.
“This is about giving families, commuters, cyclists and walkers a safer and more connected way to get around our community,” said Crewther.
“It will also strengthen tourism by better connecting the Mornington electorate with the wider Peninsula Trail network and providing victors with another way to experience our beautiful region.”
Crewther said he will work with the Mornington Peninsula Shire and relevent state agencies to see the project progress.
“Under a Jess Wilson Liberal government, we will get this important project moving and invest in the infrastructure our growing community needs,” said Crewther.
The latest commitment from Crewther isn’t the first time a funding commitment has been made towards a new trail path between Mornington and Moorooduc.
Flinders MP Zoe McKenzie and the federal coalition committed funding towards the project in both the 2022 and 2025 federal elections.
Due to Labor winning both elections, the funding commitments were never met.
In May 2025, the shire also threw their support behind a bike trail path between Mornington and Moorooduc station, however, there were concerns expressed about environmental impacts.
