Somerville Family Fun Day

After the huge success of last year’s annual event, we are seeking to make this year’s Somerville Family Day even better.

We estimate around 20,000 people attend the day where we provide loads of free entertainment and over 80 market stalls.

There will be plenty of delicious food vans on site, rides for the children, Scouts activities, free activities for the kids, D.J., storm troopers and lots, lots, more….

A record number of sponsors came on board this year, without which we simply cannot run the event. So we are hoping to get everyone back again plus any new local businesses that are able to give back to the community.

This EVENT has grown to be a huge COMMUNITY EVENT where our PROFITS are returned to our COMMUNITY.

For 2019 we have decided to share our day with 4 recipients.

Jack’s Cause

To honour and remember an amazing young man from Tyabb who tragically passed away June 2018 in a car accident.

Jack Sims was 19. 2017 Jack was Somerville Secondary’s School Captain. A much loved, well liked, gentle giant amongst his school peers. A mentor to many students. He always remained very humble about his achievements. He worked very hard to achieve, not always believing he could do it. A very quiet achiever. He also worked at McDonalds BP Penlink South Bound where he mentored many new young kids coming into their first job.

Jack’s Cause will allow both Tyabb Primary (Jack’s Primary School) and Somerville Secondary to set up an ANNUAL AWARD for the student who shows characteristics like Jack. Jack’s family are wanting other students to believe they can achieve, even if education can be challenging at times and to grab an opportunity when it comes their way. Just like Jack did.

Spreadbrough Education Trust

Many of our community members will be aware of Nathan Spreadborough’s epic fight against a rare Cancer. This family has endured so much through 2018. To help, Family Day will donate to an Education Trust for Nathan’s two young boys. We believe no matter what life throws at you, Education and opportunities are invaluable.

Hastings SES

Where would we be without our SES?

Once again manned by VOLUNTEERS. They’re needing to update some equipment so we’ll do what we can to help their fundraising. Forever grateful for their time, knowledge and dedication to local communities.

Somerville, Tyabb and District Heritage Society.

HISTORY, history is so valuable and can be lost so easily.

Once again VOLUNTEERS work tirelessly to ensure our history is documented, kept safe and available to everyone to explore. They have intriguing displays at the Somerville Mechanics Hall and now have the brand new Tractor Display Shed at Fruit Growers Reserve. These displays will be open to everyone (with some exciting exhibits) on Family Day.

SO PLEASE SUPPORT THIS DAY
MONDAY MARCH 11th, FRUIT GROWERS RESERVE, SOMERVILLE.
