A GIANT piggy bank will make its way to Rosebud as part of a charity fundraising effort to support children with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

The Very Special Kids Piggy Bank Appeal will see the giant pig visit the Commonwealth Bank Rosebud branch on 28 November with staff selling piggy bank merchandise. Funds raised will support children like five-year-old Eve who still doesn’t have a precise diagnosis other than she has a type of lung and heart condition called interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension. Her parents Georgie and Shaun, who live on the Mornington Peninsula, understand first-hand the impact of the holistic care provided by Very Special Kids, who has supported their daughter since 2019 with vital emotional, clinical and practical care.

“Very Special Kids is a lifeline to us,” Georgie said. “They’re our main support network offering everything from respite to advice on equipment, and someone to talk to. They have helped us stay afloat emotionally through the toughest of times.” Unfortunately for Eve, her situation hasn’t changed and she remains on oxygen 24/7. While she faces their daily hurdles, new member of the family, baby boy Jack, however, has brought excitement for the family including Eve who loves his cuddles.

The giant piggy bank will visit Commonwealth Bank branches at various Victorian towns from 27-29 November.
Commonwealth Bank has been a key partner of the appeal for 25 years, contributing more than $3.3 million to the charity. Rosebud Commonwealth Bank branch manager Melissa Bertucci said their team had “a long-standing history of raising funds for Very Special Kids and we’re excited to welcome back the piggy trailer again this year”. Very Special Kids CEO Michael Wasley thanked the community’s generosity that would “continue to improve the quality of life of the children in our care, while helping families build positive, lasting memories together”.
