In an effort to tackle road safety issues on the Mornington Peninsula, Rosebud Police have introduced a new fleet of traffic vehicles equipped with mobile radars for speed detection, alongside new model preliminary breath testing devices.
Over a single night, Rosebud members were shocked by the reckless behaviour of road users during their night-shift patrols.
At 11:23 PM, police detected a blue Volkswagen travelling at 116km/h in the 60 zone on Point Nepean Road, Tootgarook. The 21-year-old P-Plater’s licence was suspended for 12 months, and he received an infringement for using an unregistered vehicle.
At 1:40 AM, Police observed a white Toyota in a near miss collision with another vehicle turning onto McCulloch Street, Dromana. Police intercepted the vehicle and its driver, an 18-year-old P-Plater accompanied police to Rosebud Police Station where he blew 0.147 on the evidentiary breath test. The driver’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days, his licence immediately suspended for 12 months and will be summonsed to court.
At 4:09 AM, Police observed an unregistered silver Holden enter the BP Service station in Safety Beach at an unusually slow speed. The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old male P-Plater was arrested for failing to state his name and address. He accompanied police to the Rosebud Police Station where he blew 0.154 on the evidentiary breath test. His vehicle was impounded for a period of 30 days, his licence immediately suspended for 12 months. He will be summonsed to court in relation to drink driving offences, using an unregistered vehicle, not displaying P-Plates, resisting arrest and failing to state name and address.
Rosebud Police will continue to treat road safety as one of its top priorities, with multiple traffic operations scheduled to keep the community and the roads safe.
