COMMUNITY projects aimed at making Rye a more attractive place to live and visit are transforming the look of the town foreshore. The recent partnership between Rye Community Group Alliance (RCGA) and the Lions Club of Rye resulted in the restoration of the much-loved Rye Lions Shelter.

Originally built in the 1980s by the Lions Club, the shelter has long served as a focal point for community gatherings.

Funding for the project was obtained through Mornington Peninsula Shire community infrastructure and arts and culture grants. The Shire’s capital Infrastructure team provided technical support.

Local businesses chipped in, with the Moody family of SeaSpray Homes going above and beyond in tackling the repairs. The O’Hallorans who operate Confix revitalised the concrete floor. Bunnings Rosebud generously donated paint and supplies.

Local artists Jack and Josh created a vibrant mural celebrating Rye’s foreshore, beaches, and marine life.

RCGA’s Mechelle Cheers said “It’s been wonderful to see everyone pitch in; with the result the shelter looks as beautiful as the foreshore and bay vista. It’s also great, Rye Pre-School is again using it for their Beach Kinder days.”
