The Mornington Peninsula region which includes Frankston is preparing to welcome the golfing world, with Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club announced as the host venue for the 2027 Australian Open.

One of Australia’s most prestigious sporting events, the Australian Open will bring the nation’s best golfers and international stars to the Mornington Peninsula, placing the region firmly in the spotlight as one of the country’s premier golf destinations.

Set among the world-renowned Melbourne Sandbelt, Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club has earned a reputation as one of Australia’s finest golfing venues. In 2027, its championship fairways will provide the stage for golf’s biggest names to compete for Australia’s most coveted title.

To warm up the course, Peninsula Kingswood will also host the Players Series Victoria tournament in January 2027.

PGA of Australia and Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia CEO Gavin Kirkman said “the Australian Open headlines our summer of golf through the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia, sitting alongside the BMW Australian PGA Championship as an important focal point for golf fans.”

“Peninsula Kingswood will also host the co-sanctioned Challenger PGA of Australasia and WPGA Tour of Australia’s Players Series Victoria event in January next year. The Players Series is one of the most innovative concepts in world golf, bringing male and female tour professionals, elite amateurs, juniors and All Abilities golfers together to compete in the same field,” he said.

Golf Australia CEO James Sutherland said “we thank the Victorian government and Visit Victoria for their continued partnership and confidence as we work together to grow the Capital.com Australian Open into one of the world’s great golf tournaments.”

“Kingston Heath will provide another outstanding stage this year, and Peninsula Kingswood is a magnificent venue and a brilliant addition to the Australian Open story,” he said.

“With two outstanding golf courses and the ability to create a composite championship layout, Peninsula Kingswood gives us the chance to present something new, exciting and worthy of our national Open.”

The CEO of the Mornington Peninsula Tourism Board, Angela Cleland, told The News the Australian Open is more than a sporting event., it is also the perfect  excuse to turn a day at the golf into a peninsula escape.

“Stay a little longer and discover award-winning wineries, coastal villages, luxury accommodation, world-class wellness experiences and spectacular beaches, all within easy reach of the tournament,” said Cleland.

“Whether you’re an avid golfer or simply looking for an unforgettable summer getaway, the Australian Open offers the chance to experience the Mornington Peninsula at its very best.”
