MORNINGTON Peninsula Shire will hold the free Dying to Know Day event on Thursday 6 August at the Peninsula Community Theatre in Mornington, giving locals a chance to speak openly about death, dying and end-of-life planning.
The event will commence at 10.30am, with the program wrapping up by 12.30pm and a light lunch to follow.
Dying to Know Day is part of a national push to challenge the discomfort around discussing death and encourage more people to plan ahead.
This year’s theme, ‘Nobody Knows’, is a reminder to share end-of-life wishes with loved ones.
Expert speakers will unpack key aspects of end-of-life care, including palliative care and its focus on comfort, dignity and quality of life.
Voluntary assisted dying will also be on the agenda, with speakers outlining the legal pathway available to those who are eligible.
Support for people dealing with grief, loss and bereavement will round out the program.
Anyone unable to make it in person, including people in aged care, will be able to tune in via a livestream on Radio Port Phillip (RPP FM).
“While conversations about death can be difficult, they are essential,” said mayor Cr Stephen Batty.
“Dying to Know Day provides a safe and supportive environment for people to learn, reflect and share their wishes with those who matter most.
