CAPEL Sound Community Group have obtained a $5000 grant to go towards disadvantaged students at Eastbourne Primary School.
The money was granted by Community Bank Southern Peninsula and will help cover costs for camps, excursions, and school sports events.
Bettyanne Foster, Secretary of Capel Sound Community Group, said they are proud to be able to give back to the local community.
“Capel Sound Community Group is proud to be able to support our local community in this way, especially with the generosity of the Community Bank Southern Peninsula,” said Foster.
She said Eastbourne Primary has a lot of students whose families are struggling and the money will help ease some of their financial burden.
“The staff know the kids really well and they know which kids would benefit from a little bit of support so they can go on a camp,” said Foster.
“The state government gives funding to families who are on a pension or benefits, but there are also lower economic families who don’t get those benefits and don’t get that boost as well.”
Capel Sound Community Group have been helping support and advocate for the local community for nearly 20 years.
“I think [community groups] are really important because unless you tell the people that are in power what’s important to you, the community, how do they know?” said Foster.
