FRANKSTON South golfer Will Veitch has taken home silver at the US Kids Golf World Championship.
The championship took place in Pinehurst, North Carolina from 30 July to 1 August.
Seven-year-old Will was tied for the lead after three rounds, before a four-hole playoff decided the title.
Will said he was nervous, but it was exciting to get to compete.
“It was really cool to play in the World Championship,” said Will.
“I was a bit nervous in the playoff, but I just tried my best. I’m really proud of myself.”
Will produced a standout performance in the Boys 7 division, carding rounds of 35, 35, and 36 and finishing 2-under par.
Will, who is a member of The National Golf Club, was one of only two players in his division to finish under par.
He was accompanied and caddied by his father Nick Veitch, who said he was incredibly proud of his son.
“As parents, you couldn’t ask for anything more,” said Nick.
“We couldn’t be prouder of the way Will conducted himself all week. Watching him play a four-hole playoff in front of so many spectators, while still smiling and enjoying it all, was incredibly special. Golf just brings out the best in him”.
Will was joined in the competition by fellow Melbourne golfer Angelika Britto, who also claimed silver in her respective division.
The pair delivered one of Australia’s strongest performances at what is considered one of the world’s premier junior golf tournaments.
