RUGBY
By David Burke
LAST Friday night (10 July) the Peninsula Dolphins senior women’s tag team headed out to Casey Fields in Cranbourne to face the top of the ladder side, Casey Warriors.
After coming off a bye due to state representative City verses Country rugby league round (July 4) the team went in feeling very confident.
Over the last fortnight the team had trained in all conditions from pouring rain to a night so foggy they almost couldn’t see each other from 15 metres apart. The weather didn’t stop the enthusiasm and commitment to prepare for matches in any conditions.
Unfortunately for the Dolphins, all the preparation didn’t get the result they wanted, losing 14 points to 60 against the Warriors.
Although the scoreline was a blowout it did not reflect the effort and commitment of the team. As a group they work really hard for themselves and each other and can be very proud of the effort they put in to improve every week.
It will help the team long term to play against the top sides of the competition so they can learn from it, as they have already proven they can and hold their own against the lower ranked teams.
The men’s Peninsula Dolphins senior side had back to back byes due to the City versus Country round last fortnight (July 4) and a bye last weekend (July 11).
However, it wasn’t a quiet week for all players and coaching staff with players and coaches chosen to represent City.
Congratulations to Lachie Bouillir, Jet Garforth and Tyler Lansaw on your selection to the men’s state City side and to Maddison D’Ombrain on your selection to the state women’s City tag side.
Women’s City won 14-10 and Men’s City lost 28-12.
