MORNINGTON Lions Club have donated $5000 to the peninsula branch of the Blue Ribbon Foundation, allowing for two new ultrasound machines at Frankston Hospital.
On 16 October, Lions Club representatives presented the Blue Ribbon Foundation with a cheque for $5000 at the Mornington Police Station.
President of the peninsula branch of the Blue Ribbon Foundation, Rhon Nation, said they wouldn’t have reached their target without the donation.
“You can’t say thank you enough,” said Nation.
“It’s very generous that they’re willing to donate and we really appreciate it.”
The Lions Club raised the money for Blue Ribbon Day, which is held on the 29 September and honours the members of Victoria Police who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
“You cannot forget them,” said Nation.
“They’ve given their life for us to live a better life.”
Nation said the foundation has raised $120,000 for two fetal monitoring ultrasound machines for the maternity ward at Frankston Hospital.
She said the foundation has provided Frankston Hospital with over $1m over the past fifteen years.
“We’ve bought a lot of equipment and we’ve had a few dedications,” said Nation.
There will be a plaque installed at Peninsula University Hospital, dedicated to Blue Ribbon for the two machines they funded.
President of Mornington Lions Club, Patricia Forsyth, said their aim is to give back to the community.
“All the projects we do are to raise money for the community,” said Forsyth.
She said they decided to donate the money to the Blue Ribbon Foundation because they wanted to honour the police.
“We wanted to honour the police men and women who have been killed in the line of action,” said Forsyth.
Forsyth said the club has donated to Peninsula Health in the past, and it is nice to know the money raised will go towards something that will help the peninsula community.
“[Blue Ribbon] work with the hospitals that we work with,” said Forsyth.
“It was just a win-win.”
Lions Club member Neil Bennie said the club is not just for elderly residents.
“We can benefit our community, and we’re getting older, so we need support too,” said Bennie.
“We would like new members to help us support the community.”
