THERE was a splendid attendance at the Mechanics’ Institute, on Tuesday night when members and supporters of the Frankston Football Club assembled to discuss the position in relation to the regretable motor car accident whereby several Frankston players were more or less injured. THE return journey from Dromana on Saturday last was fraught with disaster for members of the Frankston football team. Then about half a mile on the Dromana side of Balcombe’s Creek, the first car, driven by Mr. J. McEntee, of Seaford, was overtaken by Mr. M. Goulding’s’ car. At this spot the road takes a distinct turn, but Goulding evidently overlooked this fact, with the result that in trying to pass McEntee the cars collided. WE regret to record the death of Mr Michael Patrick Flanagan, which sad event took place in the Chelsea Hospital on Wednesday last. The cause of death was influenza and heart failure. Great sympathy is felt for the widow and six children who are left to mourn their loss. Deceased was 42 years of age, and had resided in Frankston for about eight years. The remains were interred in the Frankston cemetery on Thursday, the Rev. Father Norris performing the last sad rites. EMPIRE Day was celebrated locally on Friday when the children were given a right royal time. Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing 34-year old Crib Point man Cody Graham. Cody was last seen at his address in Milne Street about 9.30pm on Tuesday 21 May. He made phone contact with family about 9.30am on 22 May but has not been heard from since. Police and family hold concerns for Cody as his disappearance is out of character. Two Australian Defence Force Blackhawk helicopters touched down at Tyabb today, Wednesday 22 May. It was part of an ADF counter-terrorism training program being held around Melbourne and Hobart in mid-to-late May 2019. The helicopters landed at Peninsula Aero Club around 3pm, before taking off, flying a circuit, and landing a second time. At least one recreational plane had to perform a “fly around” while the runway was occupied by the military machines. Frankston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for dashcam footage and witnesses after a marked police car was rammed in Frankston early this morning. Somerville Highway Patrol members were travelling east on Cranbourne Road when they checked the speed of a brown/bronze Land Rover Discovery travelling in the opposite direction just after 2am. The car continued travelling west before stopping at a red light at the intersection of Lee Street. The 72-year-old is believed to have left a care facilitly on Towerhill Road, Frankston about 3.10pm this afternoon. ON Sunday afternoon, May 4th a painful accident occurred at Tankerton to Miss A. Carmody, who is a visitor to the island, and staying with Mr. R. T. McGuigan, of “The Springs”, Fairhaven. She was stepping out of a vehicle, when, by some mischance, she slipped and fell backwards, dislocating the elbow. Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing Frankston man Anthony John Papettas. The 44-year-old was last seen in Hastings Street Frankston about 4pm on 2 April. Police and family members hold concerns for Anthony’s welfare as he requires regular medication for a medical condition which he does not have with him. Carrum Downs police conducted a random breath test as part of Operation Probe this morning. A 41-year-old driver was pulled over at an RBT site on Frankston-Dandenong Road about 11.30am. The Cranbourne West man, who was driving with his 8-year-old son, returned an evidentiary breath test of 0.238. His licence was immediately suspended for 12 months and his vehicle has been impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1040. He will also be charged on summons with drink driving related matters.

Marine Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following the death of a diver in the bay yesterday (5 May). A 41-year-old man from Carrum Downs contacted police and was subsequently arrested in Mordialloc today. The incident happened when a diver, a 29-year-old Blackburn man, was allegedly struck by a speed boat in the bay between Frankston and Mornington just before 1pm. The injured diver and his dive partner were picked up out of the water by a passing boat and were conveyed to the Frankston pier. Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Hastings last night (5 May). Emergency services were called to an address on Salmon Street about 7.45pm after reports a man had been stabbed with an unknown object. The man, who is yet to be formally identified, was taken to hospital but died en route. A second man was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with their enquiries. Police are hoping to locate the owner of a surf kite which was found in Safety Beach last night (26 April). It is believed the item was left at the boat ramp and was located about 1.30am. Frankston Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives have charged a man following an investigation into alleged historical sex offences. An investigation was conducted into a series of alleged sexual offending which occurred in multiple locations across Frankston, Mornington and Mount Eliza between 1984 and 1987. A 72-year-old Edithvale man has been charged with multiple counts of gross indecency in presence of a person under 16 years while under care, supervision and authority, multiple counts of indecent assault and multiple counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16. Emergency services are currently searching for a missing man in waters near the Blairgowrie back beach. It is believed the 53-year-old was crab-fishing with a female friend near Bridgewater Bay when they were swept off a rock and into the water about 8pm last night (24 April). The woman managed to make it safely back to shore and was able to contact Triple Zero. Police, together with Coast Guard volunteers, have combed surrounding beaches and water. A PARTY from Frankston House had an unpleasant experience whilst out motoring one day last week. In endeavoring to pass a vehicle, which claimed a monopoly of the road, the motor car was overturned.
