MEMBER for Mornington Chris Crewther has announced an elected Liberal government will fund $5m towards major facility upgrades at the Mornington Baseball Club, delivering better facilities for players, families, volunteers and the club’s growing membership.
Crewther said the investment would provide the significant upgrade Mornington Baseball Club has been advocating for for over a decade, and help secure the club’s future as a major local sporting facility.
“Mornington Baseball Club is an important part of our local sporting community, providing opportunities for children, young people and adults to participate in baseball,” said Crewther.
“I have been listening to the club and advocating for the improvements needed to bring these facilities up to the standard our local players and families deserve.”
The project will include:
– Funding towards replacing oval lighting infrastructure
– Repair and replacement of damaged batting cages and training nets
– New female-friendly changerooms
– Upgrades to the existing pavilion
– Improvements to ground and pitch surfaces
– Upgrades to spectator infrastructure
Crewther said the investment would improve safety, accessibility and the experience for players, coaches, volunteers, families and spectators.
“Sporting clubs are an important part of building strong local communities. They give people the opportunity to participate, stay active and build lifelong friendships,” said Crewther.
“This $5 million commitment will mean better training facilities, improved playing conditions and more inclusive facilities for the growing number of women and girls taking part in baseball.
“I have been fighting to make sure the Mornington electorate has the sporting infrastructure it needs, and I am proud to announce that under a Jess Wilson government, we will deliver $5 million towards upgrading Mornington Baseball Club.
“This is about investing in local sport, supporting our volunteers and making sure Mornington families have access to quality sporting facilities for years to come.”
