Controversial finish see Stonecats get win

MEN’S DIV ONE SEN

DIVISION One had five games take place on Saturday (9 May) for their fifth round of the season.

Frankston YCW had a narrow win against Edi-Asp, remaining undefeated, but it was not without controversy.

Frankston YCW took an early lead in the first quarter, scoring 3.4 to Edi-Asp’s 2.0.

The second quarter saw Edi-Asp claiming the lead, going into half time up by two points.

Edi-Asp kept their lead in the third quarter, scoring 3.3 to Frankston YCW’s 3.1.

When the final siren went, the scoreboard showed the clash had ended in a draw with both teams on 69 points, only to have the goal umpires confer and correct the score with Frankston YCW winning by one point on 69 to Edithvale-Aspendale’s 68.

Dromana was able to secure a win against Devon Meadows.

The first quarter was very eventful for Dromana, scoring six goals and taking a 33 point lead.

Dromana scored a further 3.2 in the second quarter to Devon Meadows 3.1, leaving Dromana in the lead going into the long break 28 points up.

Both teams scored fairly equally in the third quarter, with Dromana pulling a little further ahead to a 36 points margin.

Devon Meadows was unable to catch up in the final quarter, allowing Dromana to win by 30 points.

Nick Battle scored three goals for Devon Meadows. Clayton Gay scored four goals for Dromana.

Mornington suffered their fifth defeat of the season at the hands of Langwarrin.

Langwarrin took the lead in the first quarter, leaving them ahead by one goal at the first break.

The second quarter saw Langwarrin pulling away, scoring 5.11 to Mornington’s 3.1.

Quarter three kept a similar score range between the teams, with Langwarrin leading by 33 at the final break.

The game ended with Langwarrin on 112 points and winning by 36 points overall.

Matt Caine scored four for Mornington. Matthew Johnson and Jack Orchard each scored four goals for Langwarrin.

Despite having an initial lead, Mt Eliza lost in their game against Rosebud.

Mt Eliza took the lead in quarter one, up by nine points at the first break.

In the second quarter, Mt Eliza only scored 1.1 to Rosebud’s 3.3, leaving Rosebud ahead by five at half time.

Mt Eliza scored 3.3 in the third quarter to Rosebud’s 4.6, Rosebud going into the final break 14 points up.

In the final quarter, Mt Eliza only managed to score seven points in total while Rosebud scored 24, allowing Rosebud to win by 31 points.

Pines were able to come out on top in their game against Sorrento.

Sorrento started out strong by scoring three goals to Pines’ one in the first.

By quarter two, Pines had started to score more, scoring seven goals to Pines’ two and entering the long break ahead by 29 points.

In the third, Sorrento was unable to put another goal on the scoreboard, adding one point to their total while Pines added a further three goals.

Despite both teams hitting the scoreboard freely in the final quarter, Pines still walked away with a 28-point win.
