ERAMOSA Rd East in Somerville is set for major rehabilitation after Mornington Peninsula Shire approved the appointment of a contractor for the long-awaited project.
The decision was made at the 11 August council meeting following a tender process for the Eramosa Rd East rehabilitation project.
The section of road between Lower Somerville Rd and Dandenong-Hastings Rd has been identified as being in poor condition, with investigations finding underlying problems with the road subgrades.
The rehabilitation will involve a rebuild of the road pavement and reconstruction of a new road surface as well as drainage upgrades, safety barriers at high-risk areas, and audio-tactile line marking.
Seven conforming submissions were received after the tender invitation was released in March. The submissions were assessed against criteria including financial capability, previous performance, resources and methodology, risk management, and local procurement.
Council approved the preferred tender, with the successful tenderer identified as Tenderer D. The contract value remains confidential.
The project is being funded through the federal government’s Road to Recovery program. Council approved an additional $143,025 from its 2026-27 Road to Recovery allocation to allow the project to be completed.
The remaining $615,300 in Road to Recovery funding will be allocated to Bungower Rd rehabilitation, which will be completed across the next two financial years.
Cr Kate Roper said the road was an important east-west link on the peninsula, and the section is in “desperate need of work”.
“It was really pleasing to see a good number of tenders submitted for this project and I thank officers for all the work they did in putting the documents together,” said Roper.
She added there have been a lot of complaints about this road for a long time and is looking forward to seeing the project completed.
Cr Michael Stephens also said he is looking forward to seeing the road finished and in better condition.
The project is set to begin in September, with an expected construction period of four months.
The Road to Recovery funding for the 2027-28 and 2028-29 financial years will be confirmed in a report by the end of this financial year.
