NASA scientist Dr Darlene Lim drew a packed house at the Science in the Park event at Coolart Wetlands and Homestead, Somers on Sunday 11 August. Described as a “rock star in the science world” Dr Lim spoke to a packed audience about her adventures to extreme Earth habitats and her role in Mars exploration. The homestead’s stables had to be been converted into an auditorium to accommodate the large crowd. The event, part of National Science Week, was attended by many scientific organisations. It was supposed to be the jewel in the crown. A pier befitting the wonderful township of Mornington, but since rebuilding the pier started in 2010, it has been nothing but trouble. A woman is dead and a man has been airlifted to hospital with critical injuries after a shooting in Rosebud. Police were called to the Adams Avenue property shortly after 4pm where they discovered the woman dead in the car and a male with wounds to the upper body. Pictures: Yanni. PENINSULA Link freeway has been open for seven months but the authorities are still discussing the location and types of locality and tourism signs. The freeway opened on 17 January but there were no signs on the four-lane road showing traffic where to exit to reach Baxter, Hastings and the Western Port side of the peninsula.
